Kansas Senator Samuel Brownback
In a 2004 press release regarding Teaching American History grants, Senator Brownback stated: “It is imperative that our Kansas students not only understand math, science and English but also have a sound knowledge of American history. I am pleased that Kansas continues to be a leader in this regard.” He continued, “Understanding history and the principles upon which this country was founded is essential not only for the benefit of our society but for the personal development of our nation’s students. America has grown into the symbol of freedom and democracy throughout the world and our students should understand the history and the importance of this legacy.” For the full statement, see http://brownback.senate.gov/pressapp/record.cfm?id=223971
Brownback also supported legislation establishing a National Museum of African American History and Culture within the Smithsonian Institution. In connection with his sponsorship of this legislation, he stated: “This museum will reflect the breadth and depth of African American history, and will capture the essence of freedom and liberty.” He continued, “It will serve as a catalyst for racial reconciliation in this country. I am pleased to help provide the funding to get this important museum started.” For the full text of the statement, see http://brownback.senate.gov/pressapp/record.cfm?id=228668&

More Praise for America's Survival Guide
"America's Survival Guide is a bold and insightful work that should be taken seriously by those concerned with the future of America. We ignore it at our peril."
Congressman Joe Knollenberg
“Judge Warren eloquently describes the amnesia affecting our democratic republic. The historical section provides a rich teaching resource for American history and civics. A must read for teachers and students alike.” – Amy Bloom, Oakland Schools History/Social Studies Consultant
“Judge Warren has written a deeply informative history of the philosophical origins of American freedom. America’s Survival Guide is a challenge to present day Americans to love freedom, as did our forebears, or face the loss of it. If you want to know why it is just as vital to fight complacency about freedom . . . as it is to fight the forces that attacked us on 9/11, read this book.” Judge Andrew P. Napolitano, Fox News Channel, Senior Judicial Analyst
“Our democracy’s survival rests upon our transmitting to each new generation the political vision of liberty and equality that unites us as Americans. Jefferson stated it best when he said, ‘If we expect in a state of civilization to be ignorant and free, we expect what never was and never will be.’ Michael Warren is a true modern patriot whose efforts in education are one way to build a strong democracy for our future.” – J. Kelli Sweet, Michigan Council for the Social Studies, Executive Director
“This book should be required reading in our public high schools. It is well-written, gathers the reader’s interest by establishing the danger that America is in, and provides an excellent discussion of our founding principles and why they are important. Michael Warren deserves high praise for his efforts in rescuing us from the disaster of ignorance of what it means to be an American.” – Gary Wolfram, Hillsdale College, George Munson Professor of Political Economy

"America's Survival Guide describes with detail and passion the dangers that come from abandoning the "First Principles" upon which this nation was founded. But this important book offers more than a diagnosis and despair, it presents a reasoned program for restoring the U.S. Constitution its proper place at the center of American society and government. The book draws on history, politics and education to make a powerful case for freedom and fighting for it."
